INTRODUCTION TO DETECTING DECEPTION IN STATEMENTS

Whether you’re speaking with someone or reviewing a written statement, deception can sometimes be present in what they tell you. Most people don’t want to lie outright—but they may still avoid being fully truthful, often justifying their dishonesty through subtle forms of deception.

This course introduces techniques to help you recognize when someone may not be telling the truth. Over four hours, you’ll learn key indicators and behaviors to watch for when assessing honesty. While designed with law enforcement in mind, this class offers valuable insights for anyone interested in understanding human communication more deeply.

Texas law enforcement officers can earn four hours of TCOLE credit for completing the course. You’ll need to self‑report your hours to your agency or TCOLE. If your administrator requires additional information, I’ll gladly assist to ensure your credit is processed.
